It’s very easy to reshape a body in photoshop. This tutorial by Colin Smith shows you how to use the liquify tool along with the freeze mask, so you only transform the parts you like.
These has been a lot of controversy lately about the ethics of photoshop and the beauty industry. Photoshop is just a tool, and you can use it or abuse it. I personally don’t think that putting a ban or restrictions on the use of photoshop will change anything as far as self-image or eating disorders. These come from deeper self-esteem issues that can’t be solved by simply putting blinders on what we look at. Having said that, as retouchers we have a responsibility to avoid doing “inhuman” retouches. A good retouch is when you don’t know that an image has been retouched.
