Help! Bending shapes into a circle?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I think so..

What I want is to have a shape (an unregular line or lots of dots beside eachother or something like that) and then bend it into a circle.

Or if you know another way to place dots so that they shape a circle ( Like on the turntable around the Stanton-slipmat in THIS PICTURE ) that would do too.

How do I do that?

two ways:
(a) Distort>Polarize>Rectangular to Spehrical; or
(b) Make a path with the elliptical shape tool, make a brush that resmebles the lines (two dots on top of each other or whatever), right click the path and stroke with the paintbrush
