How do you Automatically input text

The scenerio is you come back from your wonderful trip. You place your 300+ pictures on your harddrive and decide that you want to place the number 1-whatever on each one of the images.

The question is how do you create an action or something to perform this task automatically.
Any solutions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I think what you want is File>Automate>Create Contact Sheet. That'll label each photo with its actual filename.

actually what i am looking for is a way to place a text layer on the image dynamically
