The first RTS that I ever played was Red Alert. It was fast, fun, and had many strategies with new maps to download etc. Not to mention the rules.ini that you could download to modify the game.
When Tiberian Sun came out, I rushed to the nearest store to purchase it. I was sorely dissapointed though, as TS wasn't the game I fell in love with. TS was a much slower game, with a pace that was unbearable to me. Not to mention the fact that you couldn't make maps.
Then the sequel to the god of all RTSs came out. Red Alert 2. I have not yet played this one, believe it or not, though I expect nothing but good things when I get it (tomorrow). This also brings to me the question, "Why didn't I buy this earlier?" The question is simple enough, though I cannot search anywhere for an answer.
With the new C&C: Generals out, I'm sure RA and RA2 will soon be forgotten, but in my heart, they will always last, and unlike most games, I know that Red Alert will not die.
I wish to know, who else has the passion for a great RTS much like mine? I know that many people do not have the chance to meet someone like me, so compelled towards a single genre, a single series even. So I've dedicated this thread to the great game of classic Red Alert and Red Alert 2, as well as the expansion, if you wish.
I hope that my words have shed light upon some of you, and I hope that you will all consider going to the nearest store and buying Red Alert 1 or 2. Or for those that already own Red Alert, I hope to see you on Westwood Online, chatting up the rooms. Just remember, Red Alert is not finished, and never will be. Happy posting, and cheers.
