Still using Photoshop 7 ... what am I missing
Ok as the title suggests, I am still rocking out on Photoshop 7.. I have friends that swear by the CS versions and I have another friend that is still rocking 5. What are the major reasons to switch to the newer versions and should I even try to get CS5 or are some of the earlier CS versions better and why? Photoshop is really expensive and I am leary about buying another version without knowing if it is really worth the cash to upgrade. 7 still does a great job for me but just wondering if it is time to upgrade.

I could still get away with PS6 if I was half inclined to downgrade, or the world ended and that was all that was available.
Nested layer folders, some new blending effects I don't use all that much, camera RAW... there's really not much. If you know the core of 7 down to its guts, you have what you need, IMO. The only thing that's been serving me REALLY well is smart objects which are, well, pretty darned amazing in the workflow.

PS6 also had Filter Factory, which was pretty darned cool. I didn't update to 7, but it was gone by CS.

To add to what kiwicollin has given you, it's also a good idea to look not just for reviews and explanations of a single version, but rather articles that compare and contrast all of the different versions. This way you get to see the pros and cons of each version listed side by side and you are able to choose more easily.

It's not really mandatory to upgrade to CS versions but I believe being a professional in the design industry, it's good to keep up with the latest in technology specially when there have been so many versions that came out since Photoshop 7. It also depends on how or what you use Photoshop for then by reading the reviews and comparisons on each version, you can decide if you need to upgrade or not.

kiwicolin, thanks for given link.
Seem to be quite good tutorials! It's awesome for a newbie like me!
