Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle - Leonardo

A doodle I'm thinking of working up into an illustration.

Hey Olie, I really want to see the finished piece !

My son was a huge TMNT fan when he was a kid and we had all the movies and the Nintendo game (which he was great at and used to kick my ass every time I played him) and a whole bunch of action figures.

Anyway, these guys were a hoot, I loved them myself !

Saw this doodle on your blog as well. Very awesome work.

Do you use a blue pencil to draw your sketches? I really want to learn to doodle like this too.

Thanks, for the most part I use a blue pencil for doodlin'/sketching, I started using a blue pencil mainly because I was talking to an animator/co-worker at the time and that is what she and many of her peers were using. One of the main reasons is that because it's a non-repo blue pencil it allows the blue to be used as a base drawing and you can refine the drawing right over your "blues" and digitally remove them afterwards, or so the theory goes . I started using them and liked the blue look and I've been using them ever since occasionally using standard leads when the need arises.

You've got a great gift. I always notice the details in your work, like the belt in this one and they always give your work that really polished look.

I would look forward to seeing the finished product. Though this looks good I think the legs are a little thin, and the position of the head looks odd in the sketch. Great start though I can't wait to see how you finish it up.
