CS4 type tool display issue

I have been working on Photoshop eversince it was 2.0
This is the first time I have this problem and I can never guess what the problem is.

Here is the symptom:
I type in, and the letters are not shown on my image, but the letter information is showen on the layer window.
I am on the top layer. opacity 100% typing in blue on a white background.
Font size 14 and Font face Times New Roman
(Resolution 72dpi; RGB; 640x480)

Can anyone help me, please?
I'm so frustrated...

Make sure the type isn't the same color as the background
