    banding in photoshop

    can anyone tell me how to get rid of banding or stepping in a graduated tint in photoshop? The images I am working on have gradations in the channels but when I apply colour to the main layered drawing, banding and stepping appear in gradations! Is this a case of not enough ram or monitor resolution of is it a easy fix within the software setup?

    anyone know how to get rid of this?
