    yes, back on topic

CS5 now has 3 things in my mind that might be worth the bucks:

    1. content aware fill - fantastic

    2. puppet warp - warp with usability? I like it. Could have been in a point release.

    3. brush presets, my tablet (after 3 years) FINALLY works right, without jumping through any hoops it just does what it is supposed to, with pen pressure, stroke, etc. It's more like Corel Painter now. Also could have been in a point release.

Wife is already using 1&2 above and editing old photos where her thigh looked too big and where I was in the frame fracking up the scene. She's going to town...more power to her.

But for me #3 is big. Is it an entire CS bump in my mind, no...more like a point release with just a few new features.

Also, 3D seems to work better. Maybe it's the 64 bit. But wait, gotta switch back to 32 bit to use a filter on any rasterized 3D layer. oh boy, this is fun...not. Was going to calculate the total upgrade cost including plugins, but I don't think the plug mfgs have figured that out yet.

    but anyways... back on topic.

ha! that's funny. He must be a mad genius then. But I agree, flash is great, just keep it outta my application folder, and just put it on my iphone and future iPad. If it runs just like Farmville, so what, fix the hardware and provide a free update. At least make my morning paper readable!

    Oh I want it!
I've been trying to figure out a way to upgrade to the Master Collection... But, life has gotten in the way again
Doesn't look like I'll be upgrading this time around.

Mixedup (Or should I say Apple fanboy? LOL I have 6 Macs, iPhone and iPad)..

I think I lot of the plugin manufacturers will be releasing free updates. I noticed that RedGiant have started to do that for their After Effects Plugins and some of the photoshop developers are doing the same.

Its no different than when anything changes such as Apples OSX or Windows 7. It takes 3rd party developers a little longer to catch up because they are usually on more limited resources.

You could call me that -- In regards to the upgrade tax:

Here is what RG is going to:
All products purchased on or after April 12, 2010 qualify for FREE 64-bit updates (Adobe CS5 compatible) as soon as they are available. Customers that purchased products prior to April 12, 2010 and choose to add 64-bit compatibility will need to pay for upgrades. Note: Trapcode Particular 2, Magic Bullet PhotoLooks, and Knoll Light Factory for Photoshop qualify for free upgrades.

Here is what Alien Skin is going to do:
Exposure 3 and Bokeh 2 are almost done and will be 64-bit on both platforms. Exposure 3 will ship in June and Bokeh 2 will be about two months after that. Since these are major version upgrades with lots of useful new features, we will be charging for them, $99 each. Free upgrades will be sent to people who purchased Exposure 2 or Bokeh in April 2010 or later. Our other products will get free 64-bit and panel updates as quickly as we can do them.

Here is what Nik is going to do:
Nik Software is currently evaluating 64-bit compatibility; however, at this time we do not have any information on when our products will become fully 64-bit compatible.

Other vendors are less clear, like AKVIS, Topaz, Imagenomic, etc. but I think some of those plugs may already be 64bit, not sure. I have not kept up with all the junk mail I get from all these guys.

But it's clear to me that you need a spreadsheet to determine the total cost of Master Suite when you factor in all the plugin updates, and to know when a complete system will be available again.

But for now, I guess it's switching back and forth between 32bit and 64bit depending on what filter we want to use.

    cheers,
    coocooforAPPLEpuffs

Kiwi, u wanna start a poll for the other apps, like DW? I will do, but perhaps a poll for each one might be interesting. I am in the middle of testing DW for production, and would be interested in what others think.

@americanna, CS4 extended is a rock solid tool. CS5 adds a few features/improvements but inmo is not worth the price of an upgrade (although we did). Adobe really needs to re-access it's pricing structure...but perhaps they never will as long as corps/smallbiz keep paying and there is no (real) alternative that costs less for them to choose from.

    gimp?

What to think of ACDSee..... It is almost the same as photoshop but doesn't hold much futures like photoshop has.

    Let's vote for GIMP?

Hermie, that may not be as ridiculous as it sounds...anyone serious about trying should read this page for starters:
    http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009...ace-photoshop/
BUT, I tested gimp all gimped out like this, and it was incompatible with so many workflows, I just gave up. It's a bit buggy in OSX, and the files don't play well with Apple software that supports the PSD format. However, I was hoping...I seriously investigated cobbling together a suite of opensource or lowcost software to replace master suite, but got frustrated and lost interest quickly. But Hermie, you being Dutch and all u probably could do well in this regard

For example, something like Lineform (http://www.freeverse.com/mac/product/?id=6020) could replace illustrator, and Scribus (http://www.scribus.net/) to replace InDesign, and heck, iMovie to replace PremierePro. No clue on what would replace FLASH, but iWeb is just as good as Dreamweaver, or heck just use BBEDIT and be a man.

However, we decided to just bite the Adobe bullet one more CS, and go for another outrageous round of upgrade prices, mostly because we have done so for a decade or more.
