New to the Forum with a question on CS2

Hi. This is my first post. I'm a long time photographer and live in the Buffalo, NY area. My question: In CS2, I'm trying to create the copyright symbol in a photobut I can't drag the symbol out of the Shapes window. When I try to drag it my cursor changes to the circle with the diagonal line in it. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome and try this, work with CS3 probably will work with CS2 too

To make a copyright symbol in photoshop (using a pc), select the type tool

Make sure the number lock light on your keyboard is on. Hold down the alt key and on the seperate number pad type 0169 then release the alt key.

Now type in a copyright notice next to your symbol. Make sure to choose a font that you like.

Hide the background layer. Make sure the type layer is still selected. Then select the text by ctrl+clicking on the text layer on the layers palette

Choose Edit > Define Brush Preset and enter a name for your new brush. Click ok.

To use the new brush, simply select the brush tool and from the options bar at the top of the screen, pull down the brush menu and scroll to the bottom. Now you can stamp your copyright anywhere you want.

Make sure you have shape layer selected from the top left (the 3rd small box) on the options bar. If you are trying to use fill pixels and your on a vector layer it won't work. Or create a new layer first

I've done all that. I've followed Scott Kelby's instructions from his book on CS2 and it just won't work. There's probably some setting somewhere that I need to change but if so, I don't know where it is.

Are you sure your num lock is on? alt and 0169 generates copyright symbol in photoshop. try to make white background layer, make a new layer and name it text. click on it with your type to tool and alt and 0169 and your name etc.. it should work

Now you do no not to drag the shapes out of the panel right?

You choose a shape first and then drag to apply it.

The option you need to choose is the left most one at the top (It's the square with a tiny square on each corner)

I got it to work. Apparently, when I drag the symbol out of the box it is so small that it doesn't show up. What I discovered is I have to then left-click in the open document and drag to make the copyright symbol get larger so it can be seen. Now I have to work on the action to apply it to photos.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.

P.S. I like this forum. Everyone seems very eager to help.
