STAFF PICK:: The Light at the End of the Tunnel

My first real try at the Orton effect. It looks darker than it did last night but then again I finisded it around midnight.

Maybe I'll brighten it up a little when i get home (but not too much because that's the effect I wanted).

That's really sweet, OG.....very nice work. I like the way the light plays into the foreground. It looks good on my monitor at work, I don't feel it needs to be lightened....the current shadow/highlight balance works for me as it is.

If I may offer one suggestion, though....the orange border works well, but did you try lowering the opacity a little bit? Seems like it tends to draw my eye to it, rather than than to the image.

    Again, good job.

I love the effect. It also helps that you started out with a wonderful image. The composition is great.

Mike - so you're at work too eh ?
glad you like it and I'll play with the border tonight.

Whubee - thanks, much appreciated. I searched my file of photos from the summer and fall a couple of days ago and picked out 4-5 that this effect might work well with

Yeah, man.....it's a tough job to surf the 'net all day, but as I told my bosses, someone's gotta do it....it may as well be me.

Very nice job. I really like the orton effect but failed at it every time i tried. I admire you persistence lol...

I also like how the yellow line pulls your eye to the end of the photo. I will 2nd the border though.. My eye often goes from the center and the circles around the borders of the photo

    I like it!

    Nicely done.

The composition still shines through. That's when you know you've done it right.

Thanks, and I agree about the yellow line. At first I was going to clone it out but the more I looked at it the more I liked it for 3 reasons:
    1) as you say, it draws your eye into the picture
2.) the yellow goes well with the pic as there is yellow in it
3.) it divides the pic into the light side and the dark side (go to the dark side Luke ! )

I'll definitely fix the border (and actually repost it) tonight

Probably one of your best shots that i have seen. Effect work fine and colours are great, and now buy an axe and prepare to be a succesful landscape photographer ( just a little reference to a talk with Barry )
