Thread: Cemetery pics

I like to photograph cemeteries as well. What do you do with your pics?? Are you working on a project with cemeteries?

Personally, I love the quiet stillness of a cemetery, and the energy that lies therein. Here in the US there are a lot of grand headstones which I see as a form of art. I was in awe of the cemetery right smack dab in the middle of Wall Street. It was one of my favorite scenes from NYC.

Personally, I like the African way that you showed better. Its simpler, and less intrusive to the environment.

interstellar... some of my best friends are wierdos.

spiritedwildfire... not all cemeteries are like these ones, the ones in the urban areas are more what you'd expect to see. Although I've seen some crazy stuff, like a motorbike carved out of a block of granite. The graves I've shown here are to be found on the outskirts of small (very) rural towns and communities, and what makes them even more poignant is that some of them share the cemetery with the graves of obviously wealthy people... big, ornate, usually ugly marble or granite tombstones with garish engraving.

    Cemetery Cafe anyone?

spiritedwildfire... sorry, meant to answer your question. A few years back I happened to be travelling around the country a bit, and "stumbled" on to some of these cemeteries. I started shooting them with a vague idea of a potential book/exhibition series, but have drifted on to other, more immediately paying things. Because of the fairly long distances I need to travel, and time I need to commit, it's still on hold.

    Those are cool documentary shots.

These shots definitely show the disparity in dealing with the dead.

The broken heart is killer and my favourite of the series.
the 'gate' on top of the plot is humourous to me in a weird twisted sort of way.

Thanks for sharing, fellow cemetary dweller!
    Peace!
