Wondering why admins let google spider this site?

Just a question, other sites like daniweb must use something like <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW"> so that everything said by members does not end up in the public domain. What say u? thx.

Because people find this site through google. A lot of the members wouldn't even know about the site otherwise. If you are worried about saying something, then don't.

A forum is public, simple as that, like Colin said that is how members find the Cafe.

Just don't post something you don't want read, and not to add to your confusion, but Google has been known to "ignore" those rules.

Okay, let me put this a better way, if ur working on a client problem, do you want your problem post showing up when people search on the client's name? I guess ur right, just don't post the clients name but google is spidering the links here as well. So any test cases have to be put someplace else. For example, if you link to [www.client.com/test/problem.html] that url shows up in google when you search on the clients name. Its just bad form (inmho). cheers!

Google can't read type in images, so just don't put the clients name in the test of post if you care. If your worried about putting it on their server, they don't need a web bot to track back links.

Hey mixed,

Just my 2cents worth. Cafe has been my main source of inbound links to my site which contributed to my site's ranking.

Which had been totally beneficial to my freelance works and getting good gigs (international and local) for me.


I think it all boils down to how it all is. Even if you post link to ur clients' site and google spider it and find it, your client sees it, does it really matter?

I think as long as there's nothing deflammatory to your clients and you do not insult your clients, whats there to be worried about?


My clients would personally love the idea if I post what I did for them for comments and they can read what others say.

thanks elaine, that makes sense, but if i tell u who my clients are, i have to kill you. it's kinda like that. i also work on a lot of inhouse stuff, where clients don't want others to see what they are doing until they are done, but i find people here helpful, so what to do? just mask it all i guess. no problems there...cheers!
