Royalty Free Observation

It was my understanding that you had to use royalty free images and cite the source...I found some AWESOME images online but could not use the images from websites as I did not know who the owners/photographers were...

For next time, if I find a cool image from a car site for example, can I simply use that photo and cite the website as a source?

Yes that is true, you have to use legally right royalty free stock images with permission allowed.

If you found a cool image of a car from a car site unless the car site states explicitly that reproduction of images are allowed, you are not allowed to use it.

Even if the car site say yes, the car companys + manufacturers might not consider it cool. Because a car itself is a design.
