Where to place Joomla files on my web server?

    Hi all,

I just downloaded Joomla (have never used it before). My hosting company is Lunarpages. The FTP program I used is Ipswitch WS_FTP. Where should I place the Joomla files? Should they go in there own folder? I have the following folders: "public :html", ".cpanel", "tmp", ".cpaneldatastore", "mail", "etc", "public ftp". Thanks.

and make sure u have a database setup for ur joomla.

does your hosting company provides you with cpanel/fantastico or some sort of control panel? usually u might be able to create a joomla app within few clicks with that.

Ok, thanks. Yes, my hosting company has a c panel for fantastico but I wanted to try to do it manually (I hear it give you more control and I think they run an older version of Joomla).

Now about the database setup (didn't know anything about that). Can I do that after loading Joomla?

Joomla during installation might prompt you to give the access key etc to the database.

Honestly I have no idea how to set up these stuff.

I usually just do it by fantastico.

Not true about the more control, control level is equivalent. And besides you can always enter into ftp to modify whatever you would need.

As for older version of Joomla, easy fix, get your host company to update it. Mine's the latest :P

But I'm not a fan of joomla.
