The "blue stuff" is snow, which actually looks realistic in color because snow on mountains under the sun on a clear day can result in a bluish tone.

I like the concept.

The blue is cool to me.

I might suggest altering your black 'burst'. I think it would have more impact if you brought the bars to a point to make it more 'ray' like and focus the 'rays' on the torch.
