since there are more and more rippers around like in elaine's case...., was just curious how do we actually trace or track rippers using our layout, design, images etc... ?
using google?

Basically.. There's no way to trace.. We can only hope that people who know us keep a lookout for us and that, the ripper is "smart" enough to leave traces of the rip in his codes and etc..
Google is the best method, but.. It only works when the ripper leaves traces. And if the site is not even indexed by Google, you can't even find it.
i have one for you
if you dont want some one to rip your work protect it
disable right clicking on you site or sites is one way and make sure your work is copyrighted the right way it is not copy righted just cuze you made it you have to register it or any one can take it and claim it as there's the bad thing is to register cost around $45.00 i think it could be more you can find alot of info on the net about copy right law's .
but myself im not going to pay some one more money then i would sell the photo for just to copy right it that would just be dumb would never make any money that way...???![]()

Couple points:
1. Right click blocking is pointless, I won't return to a site that does it and all you really achieve is a usability nightmare.
2. Copyrighting by payment is required in some cases, but digital copyright is a little different, read up on it before you try to state fact, because it is a very important aspect of the business.
3. Ripping is a problem that can't be stopped, just sit back, bite your tongue and keep designing/developing.
4. o/t , calling out rippers is a good way but very rarely works...

Even if you disable the right click the Print Screen button works just fine. About all you can really do is whine and moan about everything. If the website is making money or the person made decent money off the design you can sue but thats really about it. What is a court gonna do if there was no money involved? Order the site take down so they can rip someone elses design and restart the process?
I have only been ripped once to my knowledge, and it was fairly recent.
From my understanding and experience, using subtle flash elements helps some if you use them in ways the affect the functionality of the site. Most rippers that do not have skills will not know how to manipulate the flash. Thus on my sites I still include something flash even if it is just a media player or the main div content of the home page. This is what I have found flash to be most helpful (personally).
In the event where I was actually ripped I looked up the whois database. I contacted that individual who happened to be the designer, and I actually contacted that person's client as well to notify them of the copyright infringement. Their contact information was right on the website, so that was easy.
I have legal representation, so I politely mentioned that as well to both parties. The site was down within a few hours and the client's new site had a different design team listed as their designer so obviously they ended their relationship with the first designer.
Even if you don't have legal representation, contacting the client is the best way to get results, they don't want to pay for ripped/copied work.
As for being ripped, I only care about how I make money and the integrity of my client's image. If I or the client don't know about a rip I could care less. I was paid for the honest service I provided. If someone else sells stolen property that is between them and God. I only found out about the rip because someone told me about a site that looked VERY similar to mine. I looked at the style sheet to see how they achieved their look and noticed my names in their scripts. Otherwise I could've cared less.
Hope this helps.
