Thread: How to restore the toolbox?

    How to restore the toolbox?

Okay, first of all apologies for starting a thread about something that's very probably really basic. I've looked through the Photoshop help files and searched for hours on Google too, but can't find anything to solve my problem.

Last night I opened Photoshop, and the toolbox was in the middle of the screen. So I dragged it into the corner, where I wanted it. But as I was dragging it there, I managed to resize it. Now I can't get the toolbox back, which is really frustrating.

    Here's a screencap:

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me get my toolbox back!

not sure, but try going to WINDOW> and then click it so theres a check mark by TOOLS

Yeah, I've tried that, thanks. But the toolbox is actually still there - it's just been reduced so that the only thing left is the link to Adobe (when you click on the feather). I need to get all of the tools back as they were before.

Have you tried window>workspace and clicking on "default workspace"

    Might do the trick.

What mystifies me is how you lost the box, have tried all sorts of tricks to make mine replicate what your's has done but no luck.

I don't have that option? I only have Save Workspace..., Delete Workspace (greyed-out) and Reset Palette Locations.

I have a wireless/optical mouse. Occasionally, if I've moved the mouse or keyboard slightly perhaps, the signal from the mouse is momentarily blocked. It rarely happens, but it did at this particular moment. And it's kind of like when you drop something and try to catch it. Does that make sense? So as I was dragging the toolbox up into the corner, I actually managed to resize it instead. It happened in a second, and I couldn't get it back again no matter how much I tried. So yeah, attempts at replication are probably best avoided!

You may have to delete your preferences.

Start Photoshop. While it's starting, hold down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys (Command+Option+Shift for Mac).

Click Yes when it asks if you want to delete your preference file.

Deleting (or better said, resetting) your preferences file fixes a lot of common PS problems.

Okay, does that have any negative aspects, or side effects? I mean, will I lose anything other than settings by doing that?

You may want to save any custom shapes, brushes, gradients, swatches, etc.

Everything will go back to "default".

Sorry, I should have mentioned that first
