Colored gray scale

I just moved a colored image onto a grayscale background, now I don't have a clue how I did it or if I did such at all.

If it is possible to move a color image onto a grayscale background how would one go abou it.

(The background was a color image before I converted it onto grayscale)

If you convert a RGB colored image to Greyscale and want to insert a color image into it, just convert it back to RGB, the greyscale image will still be black/white but will now allow colored images, without converting them to greyscale automatically.
