Sometimes I find it very hard to make text stand out.
I feel that the only way I can make the text really visible, is making it white which of course is no fun.
    Adding shadow not always helps
    See this example

If anyone wants, I can mail the original pic.

Try putting a white rectangle below the text and afterwards decrease its opacity. Or you can add Outer GLow to the text. But youcan make this text visible if you change the color of it. Try different colros, and you will find the result in no time

If you want to be more subtle, try adding a white outer glow set to colour dodge or a black outer glow set to colour burn and drop the opacity way down so you can't see it. Sometimes it will lift the text up beautifully. BE SUBTLE! You're lifting text, not adding glow. In the case you provided, a black outer glow set around 5-7% opacity colour burn may be what you're looking for.

I also frequently use a thin stroke set to the outside so it doesn't eat into the text. White text with a hairline yellow stroke, for example, can just jump like crazy depending on the circumstance.
