my first attempt in caricature....c n c most welcomed!

this was supposed to be a school assignment for a Flash dress up game ( something like jesusdressup.com ((no pun intended)) ). We were supposed to come up with a caricature of one of our lecturers....i am still trying to grasp the basic fundementals of drawing caricatures and any comments for improvements will be greatly appreciated...

I know nothing about caricatures, but I know that you need be a little more finite in your lines and "dots"...like his chin hairs and moustache hairs are too sloppy. The large sized chin looks good too.

The ears are bit lopsided too...it looks like they are that way in the pic, but he has his head tilted just a little bit.

Generally, this is a good first attempt. I'd look at it and say "Oh yeah, that's a caricature!".

Check out the bookstore...I've seen 2 or 3 really good books on how to draw them. Or look up "Christopher Hart" online and see if has a book on the subject. I have a few of his "comic" books and he's really good. I just love his books.

    thanks urban n madeline!

actually its a real daunting task for me to draw caricatures...its kinda hard for me as i really suck in drawing human figures ( i once attempted to draw myself @ night and man ... i looked worse than MJ)....and actually the assignment is due fast...so i'll really don;t have the luxury to explore in depth into caricature , although i;ll really love to when i have the time

i traced the image in FreeHand and mainly kept it in vectors so that i can import to Flash later....any suggestions on where to shade on the face such that it 'll "pops out" more?

You definately need shading near where the hair and skin meet...hair leaves a shadow.

Also might consider where the glasses rest on the face.

There's probably more to shade, but I have no idea other than those two suggestions.

is it just me, or does it looks like there is abit to much space between his mouth and his chin ?

    I like it, yes !

And as Madeline said, some shadows would be nice.

    Keep up the good work!

hey thanks ppl for the comments....hehe Dark knight my intention was to enlarge his chin...thats his most prominent part

thanks for the help madeline...i tried adding some highlights....does it look better now? i really suck in identifying light sources n shadows so i really appreciate your guidance here

anyway here's the entire character set...

now i am struggling with the Flash code, but i will touch up the characters again when i am done with Flash
