I have heard enough about Norton to never let it in the same room with my Mac.

RAM tested fine. All tests were okay, actually.

I have found and fixed problems by running "fsck".

Hehe. It's right at foot level too.

You wouldn't believe how many times I've restrained myself.

OK. it's located near the floor. Did this start within days of taking it home and making the G5 a nice spot to live? Or did this problem start, let us say months later?
As you know I'm a MacHead too. I've had ZERO problems since loading 'Tiger'.
I'll admit in the beginning I had some annoying issues but that was resolve due too loose RAM Chip.
Now back to your problem and the discovery within my own.
You have the Tower and I the iMac G5 but both have some unbeleivable FANs for cool operation. When I was checking my problem 'RAM' I discovered those critters known as Fuzz Bunnies had taken over residents in the unit. Wait! This thing is located on a Mammoth Library Table, 3 feet off the floor.
Your's you say is located near the floor and you may have some strange visitors too.
The other issue is G5's create some heat and if the Fans are not operating to spec, you could have a heat issue.
Remember this my input, take it with a grain of salt or switch to to the Darkside and go 'PC'.

    It's my work machine, Bear.

    Basically the history is this.

It was ordered last September or October, was delivered in January and it wouldn't shut down correctly so I sent it back and they sent a replacement in February which I had to put into servicing like a week later. Once it came back, it still wouldn't shut down, but I couldn't afford to be without a machine at work so I just left it on. Only recently has it stopped letting me print or update programs.

I also have 2 PCs and I love them.
