I am SO sick of my G5

This thing has never EVER worked properly. After such a hefty pricetag, you'd expect a little satisfaction, but the system is just horrible. It still doesn't shut down after being turned in for servicing TWICE, programs shut down unexpectedly an average of 4 times/7 hour day, and hasn't been printing for two weeks. Now it won't even update. I've gone through all the online documentation and nothing helps.

Note: I have ONLY installed MS Office, Adobe CS, and Norton Antivirus on this machine.

Anyways, I highly discourage people from buying Mac.

    Thanks for letting me vent.

Well, actually this is a replacement for the first one. [sigh]

Programs on my PCs rarely crash. Maybe once a month, and that's if I'm pushing PS to the gills with something else open (in other words, doing something I shouldn't be doing with limited resources). Even my windows 98 box (which I love, which is mostly bullet-proof) seems more stable.

I sometimes have some problems printing on the PC but it's a server issue, not the PC. And yes, it always turns off and updates upon request.

Funny that, isnt it. The mac lovers tell us not to bash it untill we've tried it. And yet after we've tried it, we think even less of Macs. I have used the updated MacLabs at uni in the past year and the only impressive thing about them are the displays. I found the system sluggish and complicated (but then again i have used Windows for about 10 years. - so im used to the Windows environment).

But its still interesting...the mac lovers bash the PC even if it works perfectly, and the Windows users bash the mac for a reason, but are still frowned upon :P

Not often you see a genuine reason for someone slanting a mac...could this be an isolated issue with faulty hardware? or is it pretty common?

Will Apple not refund you or replace with a new one? It's your rights as a consumer to ask for your money back or a completely new replacement product, if your product was not "working" properly from the start. But i remember Colins trouble with trying to get a refund for his QuickTime Pro 7, so i truly wish you the best of luck in getting any sort of resolution from Apple.

Just out of curiosity...How often do programs crash on your Microsoft-based PC? And do you ever have problems printing? And does it always turn off when you want it to turn off?

Did you do a test on the ram? A bad memory chip can cause a lot of grief

That's bizarre. I know several G5 users and none of them have had these problems. Apple doesn't make magic machines - no one does, but I would say you are still the minority in regard to hardware malfunctioning.

I blame Norton Anti-Virus for your problems. Never been a fan, but I have heard that Norton Utilities does bad things to your Mac.
