First Steps in Illustrator: The Comet

I just downloaded the 30-day trial version of Illustrator to see if I like it, and I do. Here's my first attempt at a more comic-book style approach to a futuristic gun: "The Comet".

Let me know how I can get better...within 30 days.

First of all, the edges is white and looks really cut out.

The second is, is that a spaceship or a gun?

The colors are nice and the "comet" looks nice...

clean those edges and remove the white dust around all the shapes

    Keep it up

It's a gun. The reason the edges are white is because it was taken from a white bg.

I think what threw me is the perspective.

The top of the gun and the handle don't offer the same perspective.

It's a lot better than my first attempt ever was.

Hello Compgeek: Illustrator is nice and a exciting program to draw. Whenever you get a picture to draw over. Look into your layers, and make a template over the background layer, (click on the little arrow to the right of the layers palete, and go to Template) diminish the opacity to a percentage that is suitable for you to see the picture beneath, then start drawing and coloring over the template layer. After you finish your drawing, just delete the original layer, not the template layer, in that way you will have your original drawing without those white edges. Your picture will be sharp and neat! Good luck.

Thanks, fellas. I've got some new work, so for now the comet is on hold. Thanks for your input. And yes, the handle is a bit off. I tried to get the perspective right several times before I gave up to move on. Anyway, thanks!
