what are the best free hosting sites?

i'm looking for a host that:

is free
supports ftp transers
doesn't have banners/ads

does anyone know of sites like this? i have an account at netfirms.com which has ads, and one at brinkster.com that has browser based transfers.

locke, I have been on the Internet for a very long time and really don't think there are any ideal free hosting sites. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

The only reason they give free space is so they can use your site for advertising and generate income that way.

I really hate some of them which hit me in the face with tons of pop-up ads; that is why I pay for my server space. Mine costs $20 per month plus I rent lots of extra disk space; but I have seen recent offers for hosting as little as $7.95 per month.

I would not want to change my server because the service is so excellent; and 800 number for telephone support.. It supports ftp access.

At present, I think Geocities is the best because there is only one roll-up ad at the top of the page, but no ftp.

Does anyone else know more about this?

Thjere are several free sites but the servers are very...very slow...I gave Phil the Rodent an address that he's using now try asking him...BTW: anne your sites looking Great >>> thumbs up Hun!

I'm on port5.com now. I don't have a web page I just wanted a free image host, and they seem to be doing just fine with that: albeit slower than netfirms used to. I did whip up a quick html test page to try out, and no banner appeared on it, so at least for the present, you may be in luck.

EDIT: Oh yeah, it's FTP too.

Spaceports is the best!!!!!!!!!!!

you get
php, mysql +db, unlimited space(recieve in 20 mb portions)

the have a small banner but its no biggy its at the bottum of your browser

netfirms does cgi-bin but they don't allow php, and i want to do more with php, so i can't really do anything more with netfirms (except host my sig and av!). i have to keep all my php stuff contained on my computer, running apache with php installed

i'll be loyal to brinkster.com till the day I die, (for free hosting at least) FAST servers, no ads, popups whatsoever, only thing they dont have is ftp upload. But what the hell do you REALLY need that for if your doing free hosting anyway?
