    Sigma\'s new 28-300mm Macro Lens

a friend of mine has introduced this lens to me. it is a compact 'all-in-one' lens: macros, telephotos, auto focus . . . everything.
the price it pretty realiable, around $200(compared to other thousand dollars macro lenses)

but before opening my pocket, i'd like to know if any of u have used this lens or can give me an advise? should i or should i not spend some more money to get a 'real' traditional (non-compact) macro lens?

I don't know this lens but am happy with my Sigma 24-135. I think you shouldn't expect wonders with this glass. I bought a Sigma 70-300 once for around 200euros and sold it very quickly. But try it out and after all maybe you get something very decent

yeah i was afraid that if it was too compact then it wouldn't be so good.
    i think u meant Sigma 28-135 3.8/5.6 Aspherical IF Macro didnt u?
right now i have that one in mind and the Canon 100 2.8 Macro USM. the Sigma one is zoomable and wayyyy cheaper, but the Canon has larger aperture . . . im gonna have to research their qualities.
thanks for answering me Rainer !!!

Check the Sigma page again, the 24-135 is a wide zoom. I think 28-300 is to much of a jump for 1 lens, and at 3.5-6.3 you will wind up shooting at 400 ISO or higher in order to get enough light.

yeah lol i was confused. but nontheless since i don't have any macro experience yet i think i'd better try playing with extension tubes first. isn't it a good idea coz later on if i got the canon 100mm i'll still able to use it with the tubes what do u think a Kenko 25mm tube or a Kenko tubes set(12/20/36mm)
    my camara is D-Rebel with Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8-4 and Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4
