Here is a glass orb that I did a while ago…
Click
What I usually do is make the orb selection active by "Ctrl clicking" it in the layers palette. once the selection is active hold the shift key and move the selection down 10-20 pixels depending on the size of the orb and the Ctrl+Alt click the original orb layer to subtract the circular shape. This will leave you with a smilie looking selection… Keep the selection and create a new layer, with white as your foreground color, and the gradient tool set to foreground to transparent, drag a radial gradient from the bottom to just past the top of the selection. Hit the gradient layer with a 4-5 pixel guassian blur and then move the layer back up 12-22 pixels (just a bit further than when you moved the selction down). Set the blending mode to overlay or reduce the opacity a bit. that should give you something similar to what you are looking for…

perfect circle -
what were your first steps to creating the orb? am new and if this is a dum question, well, just say, ask again later.

Colin has a tutorial that I used to get there, here is a slightly modified version…
- Use the circular marquee while holding the shift key to make a perfect circle
- Create a new layer and fill the selection with the color that you want the orb to be ( don't go too dark or it will be difficult to create the reflections and shadows).
- Create a new layer with the original orb shape active (Ctrl click in the layers palette) drag a white to transparent radial gradient from the top of the selection to the bottom. Hit Ctrl+T to transform the layer, grab the bottom handle and bring it half way up the orb and then holding the Alt key grab either the left or right handle just inside of the orb. Next, hit the down arrow once or twice to move the entire layer down a pixel or two and hit enter to commit. A one pixel Guassian Blur softens the reflection a bit (optional).
- Go back to the original orb layer and add an Inner shadow with [these] settings.

Thanks for replying. Will look up Colin's tutorial and will also try the steps you included. liked the colors you used .... have you posted other works?
And Dreamer, my apologiy. Forgot to include in the first post that I liked your orb. Did you accomplish what you wanted after your post?
Have a good night all.

I have posted a few things here and there, but not very regularly…
Good luck with the orbs.

Didn't really use any techniques like that but I made a glass type globe...
