Asking money for webdesign
I have been contacted by someone who asked me if i wanted to build a website for him. He has some sort of medical clinic and he wants to inform people about what he does with this website...
I was wondering how much YOU would ask for something like this. Just rough numbers. It's just html and photoshop with maybe a little javascript.

I think it depends on how well you know this guy and how much you like him. Also if there is a potential for future work with him. If he is a good friend, you might wanna do a relatively cheap job, also if he can provide you with steady jobs, lowering the cost on this one would be a good idea.
For something like this, I would charge about $25 US dollars an hour since its not so complicated. Some places charge by the page, so you can make up whatever you think is good. Feel free to barter if this is a casual client.

$25
$25 sounds right....
what kinda deadline your facing?

oh yea forgot to mention deadline. Rush jobs would obviously more. If there was a sick deadline like 7 days for an entire site, I would charge like $75 dollars and hour.

The guy is a uncle of a friend of mine, but i've never met him. I doubt that he would want more than one website, maybe an update now and then...
Anyway, I asked $300 (well, euro, but that's about the same) for it. I don't like getting charged per hour, because that way I'll have to remember to check the clock every time I start or stop working on it and I get distracted kinda easily (before I know it I'll start charging him for talking to my friends or something
)
He didn't say anything about a deadline, he told me that he needed at least a month to make up the text he wants to put on it, so it won't be a stress job...

Well assuming that you won't be talking formally at a specified location and you don't have a lot of websites in your portfolio, I wouldn't charge a lot. I've seen local companies who make websites in the thousands but you would be amazed at how much more they do compared to freelance designers. I usually charge a flat rate like $100/$200/$300 for small companies. Larger companies I would charge at least $500 but at this point, I've only made business cards, covers, flyers, etc for the larger companies and they usually sell in the hundreds just for the design. It depends on your client, experience, portfolio, additude/professionalism, and reputation. If you want to make more money, add some nifty stuff to make yourself look professional like showing your sketches and giving the client choices to make.
