photoshop6 newbie question...

I have a CD-Rom template(in pdf form)downloaded from a CD duplicator. What I want to do is take my image and lay it on top of this template and then modify it from there to a final design, then save it to give to the duplicator for a production run.

This is probably simple to do but...I have no clue!!

I appreciate any and all help you can give.

I would recommend you use the goup or layer mask option, this can be found in your manual for further educating. Also the manual will give you all the in's and out's how to import different file extensions.

Hard to say without seeing the PDF but you can open PDFs in PS no problem, so just drag it onto your image or vice versa. If it's got a transparent and an opqaue portion, better yet is to bring your image in, duplicate the template and move it to the top of your layers stack and lock it.
