I love butterfly lighting. Always have and always will. It's old school and modern all in one. I made this portrait of my daughter using a single Nikon speedlight (TTL mode) overhead in a 24x24 inch softbox.

I told her to think calm, pretty and serene. She did a wonderful job for me.

Today, an exercise in skip lighting. Using my SB900 in a small softbox, I wanted to create a dramatic portrait of my teenage daughter.
I usually get this look when I mention missing homework and detention, or losing her electronics for a week.

The pose, the lighting and exposure are intended to make me appear a bit slimmer, a bit younger all while conveying a sense of calm. I feel like I accomplished that today.
