halos on web page images

I have scanned some line art to use as buttons on web page. After selection with pen tool, I have saved images as gifs--my problem is this. I am using a tiled background on web page, and my art (buttons) have a halo effect around them. I really can't adjust the matte color on "save for web" to compensate--I wind up with colored halo. Anybody ever have this problem?

That is recognized as an Anti-alias...sometimes that happens either when an image is like you did Scanned and/or the image is round cornered...Colin has somrthing on the Tutorial section about that Go check it out!
