We had a pretty decent show here in Saint Paul.

Haven figured out if I can do that with the digicam yet. I stood in the arena and had a good view of 3 small fireworks displays, and the large one in Molalla, all without leaving home.

It would be impossible to pick a favorite, they are both great shots. With your permission I would love to add these to my collection.
I took a few, (less then 100) :lol with my pocket digital that came out pretty good, but nothing like these.

:)true, I've seen quite a few fireworks shots and those are the best. Think I'm gonna have a try this week-end if I'm not to lazy to get into this crowd of ppl ;)

nice shots once again greg, i wouldnt expect anything less... I was gonna shoot some on the 4th but there were far to many street lights around when i was on the roof. SO i didnt want to get them in there. Those are very cool. thanks for sharing...

Good shots Greg, I tooo meant to take some but drank about 10 beers on the golf course in 95 degree heat before the party, so by fireworks time.......well let's just say that I thought it best to leave the camera in the bag. :lol

No. 2 is my favorite, nice clean color, great depth and focus............... sharp but soft............. very nice
but I was curious and I am probably going to show my ignorance but what is the "black card technique" I would be very interested in attempting your tech. with the digital if you want to share.

Mike --> street light can definitely ruin a good fireworks shot.
Frank--> 10 beers on the golf course? What did you shoot? OR should I ask? :lol

Cappy--> The black card technique is basically using an 8 1/2 x 11 black cardboard/paper as a shutter in front of your lens.

Set your camera on a tripod.
Compose your shot.
Set the f/stop

The guide is usually
ASA 400 film f/8
ASA 200 film f/5.6
ASA 100 film f/4

shutter locked open with cable release

place the black card in front of the lens to act as your shutter.

Watch the tracer go up and as it disappears take the card away until the explosion is done.

Replace the card in front of the lens.

Repeat until you've captured the number of explosions that you want.

Reset the shutter and start on the next frame.

Yeah, I normally don't drink anything but water on the golf course but it was a holiday and it seemed like the thing to do at the time. :lol score - 50/50 for a 100 total - all 4 of us drank beer for beer and the scores were 100 - 100 - 101 - 118 rough day all around but particularly for my brother, oh well at least we had a lot of laughs - :lol

Greg~Yeah, I used to take it way too seriously too. Back when I had the bar I used to play in a game every thursday that started at $50 a man per hole and I would once in a while break a club by slamming the ground after a flub....then one day I realized that every time I broke one, the hole cost me $150 instead of just the $50 that I had bet. I haven't slammed a club since. :lol
