Lens flare - normally a photographer's nightmare. But I actually tried to use the flaring tendency of this lens to my advantage for the composition. Any comments?

cheers boss. i used my Pentax-A 70~200mm f4 lens for this one. reliable bit of kit, have used it for years, and i got it second hand for about £50. its manual, but has such a smooth focus action that (paired with the split-ring focusing plane on my Ricoh KR-5superII body) its pretty easy to get the focus in.

well fotodog my entomophobic friend, if that last one got you then what do you make of the common yellow dungfly?
i bent the rules on this one too - throwing the subject out of focus with my macro lens gave an sort of impressionist image that was far more attractive than would have been the case if i had shot for the detail.

whilst RAID is indeed an effective destroyer of bugs, it is indesciminate in its nuking of our chitinously exoskeletogenous neighbours. i favour a more organic approach to the problem. my little venus sits by my bed at night. below is the grim fate that awaits those who come to eat me.

The fly shot is killer!
I like the fact that it's not sharp focus.
the other shots are great too.

Travelling is great, but the company you keep isn't always. A constant companion on my trips tends to be the cockroach. I have been woken up in the night by a cockroach eating my soap in India. I have accidently eaten one too. This one was an uninvited guest in my bath in Sumatra.
