Anyone know where I can find a trial for these?

You can get the PLE version of Maya at
MAYA (http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/news/home.shtml)
it leaves watermarks on your renders but everything works, I don't think there is one for Max but they have a lite version that's free called GMAX that's supposed to be okay, you can get that HERE (http://www.discreet.com),
you can also get a trial version of Softimage/XSI which is a great app at
XSI (http://www.softimage.com).

Have fun!

For Max you can visit thisDiscreet.com (http://www.discreet.com/products/3dsmax/)
look for the "Order demo CD" link in the navigation section. Fill in the appropriate info and wait a couple of days and they will send you a fully working 30 day trial for free directly to your door.

I ordered this because I was not sure if I wanted to buy it. Now that I have used it for the 30 day period I probably will go buy it soon.:D
