Agree with Rain. The clouds are fantastic. Great shot, Sam. And the answer to the question is Yes.

The bow depends on where it is raining... The coloured spots are where it's raining.... :D Great clouds, i like the purple colours! Great shot!

it's all about light being bent by water isn't it, there's no reason I guess why a rainbo has to go to the ground. still I've never seen that!! very nice

Thanks everyone.
This slide was finally brought out right by my new scanner, the old scanner never did slides very good, so you might get tired of seeing my old pictures.
Rainer & Fantasim: I've taken cloud pictures ever since I got my first camera and they still fascinate me.
fotodog: Your right, it's not really called a rainbow but I don't remember the proper name.
TraXter & Daniel Hughes: Yes it depends on the rain, whenever you see a true rainbow the sun is always behind you, that's why it always reaches the ground. This was formed by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.
loiosh: Trust me, it never ends. :lol
Rabb17_106: Because you brought it up, check my next post.
Thanks again everyone.

Dunno if it is still a rainbow as I can't see past the big ol' white box with a red x in the centre..

A good shot - well exposed for the subject.
I agree the spectrum firmly has the attention of the viewer, but it would be improved by either including or excluding the tree.
I remember something similar happened in the Uk a couple of years ago. I was bustin - nearly went out and bought yet another lens on the spot. It seemed odd that no one else seemed to see it. I thought I'd eaten something I shouldn't have. Fortunately it turned up as one of the lead subjects on the evening news!
It was termed 'pearlescent' or 'mother of pearl' cloud. I did some diggin for you:
