the font i want to use for my first web site is a little too thin to add effects to but i want to use it how would i go about making it thicker without ruining the look of it?

also is there a thread or tut for making the bullet speed effect from the matrix or can anyone tell me quickly how to recreate that? (the bullets making the waves as they break the sound barrier) thanks if anyone can help me

It's generally a bad idea to try an alter fonts as they have a tendancy to look pixelated and pretty bad. However, that being said, if you'd like to experiment (I suggest working on a copy) one way is to rasterize the text and then choose Filter>Other>Minimum and play with settings. As for the Matrix pic, I've never seen it could you post a screen shot or something and let us have a look?

crap it took me a while i didnt feel like sparking up the dvd-rom but heres the scene http://www.dlc.fi/~ihra/matrix047.jpg [link]

you can't see it very well and i dont know how to link here properly ill try find some more but if you have seen the movie you know what i mean its basically a thousand waves being made as bullets fly past (looks like water in mid air distorting the background) and like a boats wake it gets bigger as it goes.

i cant believe you have never seen the matrix?
no time for movies when your making money huh?

Hmm. This effect looks very similar to the lighting thing done by Jans. Can anyone help me out? You know, that thing he used polarize and wind on. Hopefully somebody knows the one I'm talking about.

As for fonts, try to simply find the bold or black version of whatever font you picked. You *may* find Faux Bold in the drop-down character menu up there beside the little triangle. May. I'm actually not on a machine with PS but I think that's where I saw it. Generally not a good idea to Faux anything, but it is there if I recall correctly (I never use these features, as some people around here are well aware). Anyways, Cheers.

Mila, another option is to highlight the text, and then bring up the Character options box (Ctrl/Cmd+T) There's an option to increase the width of the text there! This will probably save you the pixelation that might come from using filters and such, and you wont have to rasterize the layer to do it.

Hope this helps,

PS- Sorry Phil, I learned lightning from NAPP's site. . . can't help you I'm afraid. . .

heres the scene im trying to recreate (in a static image) sorry for the mov there just isnt anyone hosting pics of what i want to show but if anyone can help it will be much appreciated (im just wondering if i need something other than photoshop to make this effect)

see how the bullets disturb their surroundings (sonic waves) and they get bigger as the scene progresses i want to incorporate that effect into an image with photoshop is it do-able?

Toughie. How's this technique do ya?

You can probably modify it to meet your purposes...

Anyways, here how I did this...

1 Make a new layer
2 Select your pen tool
3 Draw a line (two end points only)
4 Go to paths
5 Click in the blank area to deselect
6 Select your brush
7 Click on the brush picture to edit your brush
8 I used the following settings:
Diamater: 50 px
Hardness: +100%
Spacing: 180 %
Angle: 60
Roundness: 50 %
9 Right click work path and go to stroke path
10 Use paintbrush and hit ok
11 Go to layers and double click the layer with the ovals on it to bring up layer effects
12 In Advanced Blending, bring the Fill opacity down to 0
13 Go to bevel and emboss and adjust the size, lighting angle, etc.
14 hit ok
15 Select your move tool
16 Holding alt, drag a copy of the ovals and line then up
17 Merge the two layers
18 Go to free transform
19 Holding ctrl, adjust the corner boxes to add the perspective you want
20 Go to quick mask mode (Q)
21 Run a black/white gradient along the bullet path
22 Exit quick mask mode
23 Gaussian blur the selection
