Hello Everyone,
im trying to create something from a tutorial, however not to far into the tut; ive arrived at a brick wall. So im wondering if anyone could shed some light as to what this might mean.
STEP 4# Make the "Background" layer invisible and create a new layer on top and name it "2 Alpha." Go to Image > Apply Image and check Invert. This will flatten the current visible layers in the selected layer and invert it.
apply image and check invert isnt available for the clicking
any advice?

thanks in advance

Hi MM,
Do you have the top layer (2 Alpha) selected. If you have the Type layer (PSD layer) selected, Apply Image will be grayed out.

MM,
I've gone through that entire tutorial (wow, that's a long winded one) and had no problem with 'Apply Image', it should work for you. If you're sure you've done everything right, you probably need to re-create Photoshop's preferences file. If it gets damaged, photoshop can exhibit all sorts of weird behavior.
To re-create the preferences file, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS X). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
After re-creating the preferences, the only preferences you may need to reset are those found under Edit>Preferences (Photoshop>Preferences for Mac). You won't lose your color settings or custom work space.
Actually, I found the tutorial rather hard to follow. I think the writer often assumes a little too much and fails to explain in enough detail. Then again, maybe it was just me:-)

well now thats sorted i still quite havent got the same results as in the tut.
Step 5
Command-click the "2 Alpha" layer to load the selection and hit Command + C to copy. Go to the Channels Palette and create a new Channel. Hit Command + V to paste. Hit Command + D to deselect.
i understand what all that means but in the tut it shows white with the dots when i do it mines just plain white text in the channel
what am i doing wrong?

so ive reached step 16 :o and it says
Step 16
Go to the "Grain" layer in the Layers Palette and make it visible. Go to Filter > Artistic > Film Grain. Set the Grain to 10, Highlight Area and Intensity to 0, and set the Blending Mode for the layer to Color Dodge.
but when i go to do this; the filter artistic is greyed out meaning i cant select it; why is thus?
ive tried it so many times and even recreate from scratch but no matter it will not work
so if anyone could shed some light as to what i mite be doing wrong would greatly appreciate it

MM,
Make sure you've made that 'Grain' layer visible (click the little eye) and also that your document is in RGB/8 Bit mode (Image>Mode>RGB and 8 Bits/Channel).
