Is that a #3 painted on it?
Cool picture, I like the processing that you did with it.

No, that's some sort of decoration. I think it means that that house was build in 1633 On the wall it says 6 3 3...
Thanx. I'm still working on it to make it even more perfect.

Looks really good, Hermie! I love the treatment, but I think I prefer it with the other house in there... maybe knocked back just a bit, but not removed? It's beautiful architecture... imagine an entire street lined with houses like that... corker!

Thanx MS. it takes time but then you got some ;)
So the first one is better than the "last" one? It's not the entire street with these kinda house, just one! There are a lot of very old house in this city (Deventer).

I have to agree with Barry...Arrr..., The house and the tree seem to balance it out with the arched walkway on the other side. Great Photograph!

I like what you've done with this one it works with the subject.
For what you can see of the architecture on the building to the left is rather uninteresting but it help to make the old building stand out that much more, so I'd say leave it in.

Very nice touch to it!
I agree with the house in it being better nicer. I think without it there is just too much whitespace. If you dont want any attention brought to it, you could remove the window... Thats the only thing my eye ever goes to with the building to the left

Great treatment Hermie, really works well.
I do agree about the other house being in the picture, It adds scale and makes the house look stronger, more solid.

Alright than. I have to say that in the first moments when this baby was born i didn't mind the building was there, it wasn't a threat, but somehow i though it had to go....
Thanx every one for liking it. Don't you guys think it's strange that the Scotsman didn't react on this post?? :o
I think it's because he doesn't like the image much......:(
Oh well, i'm glad you guys like it..... :notworthy

My Dear Hermie. I feel slighted with your personal attack on me. :(
The reason I have read this thread so far down is I was thinking on the reaction of the others and considering if there is a third way.
I considered removing the house to the left and re-positioning it about halfe way down, with the botton of the roof coming to the hieght on the main buildings extension. This is a serious opinion and not just a dissagreement with the egg man.:lol

Few months later and a new approach. How does all of you like this one?....
I used (again!) Topaz Adjust, Simplicity and some lens correction. After that one of Al Ward's free Frame Action.

For me, your final image looks less like art and more like 'processing'. I prefer something more subtle. The images above are more classical. I reckon that people find the absent building is absent because they saw the previous version with the bldg in. I don't think it would be missed were the work simply presented with it not there in the first place. The only thing that would give it away is that (whether there's a street of them or not) the architecture is elevated, which suggests a need to go up because of the lack of available space to go out.
So, the only thing I found 'wrong' with your first/second image was that without reference to the adjacent bldg, the perspective seems quite strong on the left wall in particular. Skew this and I'm sure it would be fine!
Hi Hermie,
What a wonderful photograph of vintage residential architecture!
My pick is your original posting.
The distortion and perspective though is a bit troublesome.
Maybe use Filter>Distort>Lens Correct?
• Here I did Remove Distortion +29 and Vertical Perspective -73.
• I also did a small painted mask on the neighboring left building to add to the vignette and to the overall balance of the composition.
• The text at the bottom I would like to see on straightened, not text on a curved path.
Vignette the photo and the text area for better visual transition.
Just suggestions, IMHO. ;)
Thank you for sharing your photographs and travels.

Thanx Kathryn.
I made me a second version of this. My techniques are better these days than 5 months ago :lol.
I always use the lens correction but it is a bit overdone.... Now i used: Remove Distortion +29 and Vertical Perspective -53. And the scale to 120%.
The text is because you did the lens correction ;) because it was straight in the beginning......
So here it is.... Hope you like this one better:

Hi Hermie!
Well so it seems my Lens Correction did curve your text. It was not you.
I just thought you were getting a little “artsy smartsy” on us with text on a curved path. ;)
The curved text at the bottom just seemed to conflict with the strong vertical composition.
Some days I wish I was a photographer and had your talents!
As always thank you for sharing your images and talents.
We all learn from each other.
