I've never really done any renders with c4d before - I really need to learn it, along with after effects it seems to be really heavily used in the motion graphics biz...
Really simple, let me know what you think:

Cool I like it. Kinda looks like something you have on your desk at work. Like a paper weight kind of thing. Keep going with it

i love c4d, so much fun, but what the heck is it... a study on spheres and ashtray? i think you need to do some more with it now, perhaps bring it into photoshop and manipulate the backgroud (or add cig butts). cheers,

It's not a study on anything, it's actually a result of seeing what different shapes looked like with different reflections and so on...
I'm still learning my way around 3D, I'll fiddle around some more and maybe post some more.
