In April, my wife and I ventured to the Chinese Gardens and here's a couple of shots.

I just got a new lens, a Sigma 17-35 2.8.

I'm pretty happy with it.
HOpe you like the shots.

Great shots but the sky is a little washed out, a polarizer would be a great addition.

:) really nice and sharp, fotoman. I like the reflection in the water and it's a shame that the first two are a bit to small.
cool shots, greg:)

Davey - Thanks! I'd love to have this as my backyard. Can you imagine??

Stellor -- Thank you! I do agree a polarizer would have done the trick. But in my defense the new lens I was shooting with has an 82mm filter ring. meaning a quality polarizer would run about $250. a little out of my budget.

Rainer -- Thanks dude! I'll post the other two shots in a larger format just for you my friend!
Thanks again!!

Hi, i just have to ask...as you might know i just jumped into photography and want to learn as much as possible. Would you mind explaining to me what you mean with a polarizer ? Is it a lense you put on the camera...like eh... "sunglasses" ? I have polarized sunglasses - is this something similar (to prevent angular reflection) ?

Thanks again everyone!!
Cyber --> the 17mm - 35 mm is a zoom lens that provides a maximum of 107 degrees coverage at 17mm.

Another way to look at is on a 35mm camera a 50mm lens gives you approximately what you see with your naked eye (46 degrees of coverage)

So basically you get about 2 1/2 times the coverage area.

Dissen -- It's similar to your polarized sunglasses. Basically what it does is select which light rays enter your camera lens. Because all reflected light rays become polarized. Polarizing filters can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast by affecting the quantity of light not the quality.
