I created this image a few months ago, when they were campaigning and going at each others throats. Im finally beginning to grasp 3d... but Im still a bit rough around the edges. Gonna concentrate on animating in 2009 :(
That means another long year of self training.

What cha guys think?

i think the colours a bit on the red end and the bodies looks too small for the head, esp Mr O.

Really nice work! Very (ahem) punchy.

Theres always one with a cocky 'punchline' isn't there!

Yeah I agree you should 'knockout' the redness in the image! Great concept though man

Thanks!

Great punch lines yall!

So I gotcha seeing red hugh? Good thing I didnt put in the blood splats from my original sketch. I was also going to make Obamas gloves blue..an attempt to balance it all out. Since the republican party is red..and the democrats are blue.

I'll tone it down in round 2.

They are characachers Ray...thats why their heads are big.

I also created realistic, proportionate versions of these guys aswell.

Very neat overall.

Not to be picky but the punch landing on McCain is not true to the motion trail (based on how his head is moving). Is anyone else seeing this or am I high... lol

ha, good one GQ! But perhaps more accurate if it were Palin in the ring with McCain as coach. But seriously, the texture of gloves? dunno if that works. So tell us what u used to do. Lots of folks here into C4D and whatnot. Photo manip? I tried once to put real faces on Poser, to map real-world facial features to the models, but that was tough...

Thanks Mckeefe

Yeah...I see what your saying about the motion trail.

I wanted the punch to look as if its grazing McCain while hes throwing a punch and his momentum is kinda dodging the blow. Obamas swing is downward..so it nicks McCain cheeks a bit(yes, McCain has big cheeks). So they would wiggle for a few seconds before the next action take place.

But I can change the motion blur..and bring it down a bit and push the force towards Mc...if that looks true.

Yep mixed up! The gloves are rough around the edges! Yeah.. maybe I should put Palin in the ring with no gloves..biting Obamas ears, and at the same time scratching his chest with these long shiny nails!

Thanks for the idea- I'll try that for round 3!

Yeah..Poser is a tough cookie. I did a lot of freehand work to the textures in PS to get the faces to look like them. Plus sculpting, and deforming their features was a pain. Actually C4d works well with Poser...still tough to do though.

U could make a great series of this with those ideas u have. famous political bouts of the 2000's. I'd like to see a match with "The Governator Schwarzenegger" fighting the legislature, and the people of California - it would be the tax bout....

Yeah..that sounds cool mixed up! I want to do animated storylines...but 3D is so time consuming. And most of the time...my images dont turn out as good as I imagined. It took me a full year just to get to this level.

Thanks for the critiques...they really help.

GQ, I know I know, time...that's why I only get a few times a year to really practice and learn more on 3d and i am always looking for shortcuts. Using C4D or even quicker Carrara and runtime libraries from DAZ/Poser often helps. anyway, keep up the great work!

No worries, I didn't even notice it. :)

Wow, that is one hard blow - seems like the ref's hand would be hurting more, hitting that helmet.

Ha ha..yeah the refs always get caught in the action, Knocked down or tackled. But this ref wasnt having it! He gave em a nice jab! His hand mightve made it through the helmet. It looks a lot different on video though.

Thanks wecaweb..I'm not that crazy about politics myself, but for the first time I was really drawn to it this year. I'll start on the other rounds one of these days...hate to start something and dont finish up. And now that I've found a few competitions...my time is really going to be limited.

I'll post a work in progress later when the smoke clears.
