extract shape out of shape

Hi, Ive created a vector outline of a magpie but need to cut out an eye to make a complete bird vector shape. How to I cut the eye out of the main shape to leave me with a complete fillable object? Many thanks

Select both shapes then go to Window > Pathfinder
Holding down the ALT key while you click on the Subtract from shape area icon button. This will cut out the eye part.
