This looks loads better than your last flower shot but you are still getting a really flashed look. Maybe you could try diffusing the on camera flash with a sheet of paper, or set the camera down and use the timer to get a long exposure and just use ambient light.

another nice homemade diffuser is a milk jug.
Cut along the side with the circle in it at the bottom. Start from the very bottom and cut up to the top. The circle just be cut a little smaller to get around most lenses. That way, it will be attached to the lens and come up and over to diffuse your onboard flash

That came out really nice.
@Politik, interesting idea, never thought about that.

Hah! Politik... seriously high tech solution there! :lol Camera manufacturers pay egg-head boffins millions to create, evolve and perfect seriously high tech gadgets, and we come along and stick a plastice milk jug on it. You gotta love it! Great idea though.
I've found the thin frost-protection sheeting that you can buy at nurseries makes a really useful scrim as well. You can also get it in quite big sheets, so, when attached to some sort of frame, it can be used as a large diffuser when shooting people or large objects outside.
