problem in photoshop

hello,
My photoshop stucks when i work on large size images with 300 DPI resolution. My ram is 512 Mb still it stucks and get hang offen, so i just need to know how can i solve this problem, is 512 MB ram is enough or something wrong with my os or other configuration, i am using win xp.
I have seen many web site design company (http://www.webdesigningcompany.net) sites which also have large images.Are they also faces same problem.

I have to ask: do you have a legal version of photoshop?

My opinion is that 512 Mb is not enough for XP. minimum should be 1Gb. My computer has 2Gb.......
