Very Very nice DT. I love the Sphinx because of the clean cut. I question #2 with the grain apparently running across the pillars but overall, they look good to me.:D

Jim

Thanks Hermie.

Hey Jim, I had a big debate about that with the client. We both agreed that we should take some licence, as it looked better with the grain running horizontally rather than vertically. Technically, it could also be achieved in real life building by using timber this way. I also did one of the Parthenon where the columns are made in sections (as they really are). In fact, I've added that visual to my post.

I do agree with you DT. There is a method of using smaller bits of wood, gluing them together and shaping them on a turning machine so I will let yopu off with it.:lol

Jim

regardless of grain direction, lets not lose sight of the "blimey they're good" factor!

They look fantastic Barry, I love the concept. Did you design these from scratch in a 3D program?

Thanks for the comments, all.
Ryan, I used stock library images for the original architecture, then the Sphinx head, the Parthenon columns and the Colosseum walls were positioned, textured, lit and rendered in 3D (a combination of Vue 5 Infinite and Carrara 5Pro). Then it was stuck together in Photoshop, and aspects of the original images were changed/tweaked (the Sphinx perspective was heightened, blowing sand, and the sky was changed to heighten drama).

They are stunning Barry, thanks for explaining the process you used, makes me want to learn a 3D app. The client must be really pleased with the results. Great job

How come I've only just seen this!

Awesome 3D work!

Thanks Daz. The 3D work is only really on the Sphinx mask, which was dropped onto a stock image of the Sphinx. That image was tweaked... I exaggerated the perspective a bit, made it moodier, and added the sandstorm. The mask was a bought 3D model, which I positioned, lit and textured, and rendered in Vue 5 Infinite, with a bit of postwork in Photoshop.

iauRTEL, here are the other two.
