Im trying to wrap my head around cs3.. Not sure what the difference is between a pattern and a texture. Is it only the fact that textures are use to give the impression of the material of something (e.g wood, rock etc).. or is there another difference, eg the fact that textures create the impression of depth when applied? Furthermore.. if you make a texture yourself, how do you use them? As a brush? Or an layer style ? Or a pattern? And.. these are pixel based right? So you can just scale them without loosing sharpness..

That was confusing because the texturize filter in CS3..is able to scale without loosing sharpness, so that's just a extra you get with the filter right? Cause if you do it yourself its pixel based and not vector...?

thanks!

Wait im fiddling around with it and created a texture... it seems that if you create your own texture..it disregards the colours you made it in (mine was yellow bricks) and when you use it as a brush you can paint in a certain colour, with the texture in it.. and when you use it as a layer style (emboss it..) you can add "real" depth to your layer because the texture will be embossed/bevelled... is this correct? So basically the texture has nothing to do with colour..but should be seen as an effect that you can add to your brush or layer or whatever.. so a patternt would be different because it stays the way you created it, including colour and stuff...so it can be seen a somewhat static preset whereas an texture is more of a effect you can apply.. does this make sense?

o wait! haha sorry.. but what is the best size/resolution to create your own textures in? I know it depends on the scale of your project..but is there a preference? I dont want to rescale my texture all the time because it looks blurry or shows lines or something.. which brings me to my last question.. how do you prevent your texture from showing lines when you downscale it? How do you make it seamless?

thanks guys!
