modems and laptops and mac, oh my!

i posted this on another board, but just in case i don't get an answer for awhile, i thought i'd post here too. i know i haven't been here for 1,000,000 years, but there is a lot of traffic here and SOMEBODY has got to know the answer...

so...

i have my mac with os 10 and a laptop with windows vista. my daughter is constantly hogging all the internet time, and i barely get a chance to get on here. we are setting time limits, because it's getting ridiculous. anyhow...

i have my mac hooked up to the dsl modem. i could hook the laptop up to the modem. i can use one or the other (MY preference is the mac, my daughter's is the laptop). MY QUESTION: can i buy another modem and hook up the laptop in her room (same line) and both of us use the internet, or is that impossible? also, if that doesn't work, then can i use my mac with the dsl and hook up the laptop with some cheap dial up?

help... i don't know anything about modems and windows and laptops and all this stuff...

Can your laptop hook up wirelessly?

Why don't you get a wireles router so your daughter's laptop can wirelessly hook up and u can still use the mac for internet?

Well being a Mac user I can say this worked for me 100%.

Take the cable or DSL modem that you have and hook it up to a wireless Linksys router. This allows any wifi (wireless device) to connect to your network in a matter of minutes by entering a key.

With this setup I have the following sharing my precious i-net:

2 iPhones
3 Laptops
2 Pocket PCs
3 Desktop PCs
2 Xbox 360s
2 PlayStation 3s
1 Tivo
1 Wireless Camera
1 Linksys Music Server
1 RoKu Music Server
1 Network Storage Device (NDAS)

and I still have some to spare :)

lol, basically i have 2 laptops and 1 desktop.

the laptops hooked up wirelessly with my internet and desktop is by cable.
