View Full Version : Accessing POP only e-mail

I've just singed up with a web provider who is offering me a free POP address @mydomainname.co.uk. I like the sound of this, as it means my hotmail doesn't have to get clogged up with mail from the web.

However, the problem is accessing it. You see I don't get an SMTP account unless I pay extra for it (which I really don't think is worth it at the moment), so all I want to do is access the account to pick up my e-mails. However, programs like Outlook won't access the account unless I give it an SMTP address as well. So I'm kind of stuck.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to connect to the e-mail account to pick up the e-mails?

Thanks very much.

Outlook Express can access pop accounts. I don't know about Outlook, but don't know why it would be different.

It's possible that the provider has blocked 3rd party access to the mail server. Your best bet is to go to the area of their website that explains their pop mail product. If they have blocked it, they will generally tell you.

Outlook support pop. When you create a new account it asks if you want it to be pop or imap.

hehe yeah you had me confused with imap and smtp as you can leave smtp blank (lol i think so) but imap and pop3 is diffrent :)
