Photoshop League !!! { General Chat }

This is a little idea I get while playing football manager all the time.. :lol

I was thinking in my head, why not a Photoshop League, where we challenge with Photoshop skills?

It will work on the Home & Away system like in the soccer leagues, meaning ...

e.g. Player A versus Player B
Player A is Home and Player B is Away
So Player A decides the challenge

When it is Player B versus Player A
Player B is Home and Player A is Away
So Player B will decide the challenge

A win will be 3 points, a draw will be 1 point, and a lose will be 0 points, with no demerits etc..

This will be a good game with good fun and the most important thing of all is that, many of us have our forte and niche areas, so we get to hone our skills in different areas through all the challenges..

The number of matches for a player will be, for example, if there are 5 players, 8 matches(4 home and 4 away matches for him/her)

Everyone is welcome to join, especially the moderators:P !!

On the consideration that many of us may not be available or free all the time, we will most probably draw up a fixtures list after we confirm the number of players and every player will be allowed to delay their matches should they be unable to meet the dateline for the fixture originally agreed :)

So who's in? I know I have pm and jusu on this.. And, I'm in, for sure.. :P

Can we have more people and can we have some moderator participants in?

I know this is going to be a hard game to keep up, but as Greg told me, the success will be dependent on the players and the people.. I know we can make it work..

I know we can really hone our skills through this game in all different disciplines.. It will be really good..

and i think there must be 4 judges, cos if there are 3 possibilities (win, draw or lose) with 4 there can be a draw of choices, so even if one vote in draw, one in win, and one in lose, the 4th one decides...

it could be a topic with the table, and then the single matches wich the name would be: "Home" vs. "Away" - "theme of the match"

some updates on points system..

as we all know, a win is 3 points, a draw is 1 point and a lose is 0 points..

Greg made a great suggestion about the judging, so.. here goes..

Everyone in this league have a chance, only one vote on a match, and you are not allowed to vote for your own match..

You can vote "for" or "against", there will be no "draw" vote.. "against" player A, means u vote for player B in a A versus B match..

And if the number of "for" votes is more than "against" votes, that is a win and vice versa..

This is good in a way, if there is tie in league score, the difference between "for" and "against" will decide your league position..

P.S. I can predict a good fight between Greg and Darren.. Its like Man Utd versus Chelsea.. Oh man!

When i settle my camp by wednesday.. I will post up the fixtures list and a sample shot of the league table.. The beginning table will be according to participants nickname.. well, if i'm not wrong, i'm second last.. :( but its ok..

I'm not too sure how the rules work myself. But from what i've gathered its kinda like a football/soccer league. You play each other at home and away. Then you submit your work at a certain day, people vote for them and points a given to the winners. Then the league table gets updated.

Hermie: I think i read somewhere that one of the admins would be setting up a section within these forums for discussion of the matches etc, but if people really wanna discuss in a convo instead of using the forums i guess could setup a temporary ircd on one of my servers with a web based interface so even the most clueless people can use it.

emm: Sadly it's not like KO stages. Ray still has to organise though, but i would assume it would go something like this. Discussion of the match on Monday, then you have 5 days to work on it and submit on Friday. Voting takes place over the weekends, tables get updated on Sunday and repeat :D

loky: Hope the above clears somethings up for you.

Also, good luck to all of you in this upcomming league, looking forward to seeing some top class masterpieces :D

Ok Norm got the most points clear.. The Player at Home will decide the match with the Away guy/gal then submit both entries on Friday, up till next thursday for all players to vote for the match, and before the next match.. the league table will be updated..

Emm.. Its like a every week thing and a total of 30 matches.. So 30 weeks.. Just like a football league.. Its not a KO Match, but a league.. If you arent able to commit, I guess its ok.. We will have to regenerate the fixtures..

Hermie, I would suppose you can liaise with your away partner what you want to set the battle as via u2u..

Or, we will be having a announcement area in the little section that Matt will be setting up, Home Players can use the Announcement section to announce their proposed battles on their homegrounds..

Nope. I duplicated the layer (text), putted it under the original layer. Changed the color to black and adjusted it with1 or 2 px down and to the left... I could do embos but the detail was to little to notice.

Why Photoshop League?

A platform where photoshoppers from all levels of experience take part, and upon this platform, photoshoppers would ideally be able to build on their skills, learn new skills, develop/add on their design/artwork portfolio. The ultimate goal would be for photoshoppers/designers to develop into full-fledged all rounders through different competitions with individuals with different skill levels.



How the game works?

Photoshop League is an idea derived from soccer leagues’ concept. As of moment, it works on a 30 gameweek system, where there will be a total of 8 matches carried out every week. This 30 gameweek system and 8 matches a week is determined by the number of participants.

Number of game weeks / Matches per player to take on
= (Number of Participants-1) x 2 -> (16-1) x 2 = 30

Every single participant would therefore be required to compete on a weekly basis of one match per week, a total of 30 weeks and 30 matches over the span of 30 weeks.

Just like the soccer league, there will be Home & Away matches, if you are the Home player for the gameweek, you will decide the competition for your Away opponent. The ability to decide what goes within the match for both you and your Away opponent is the privilege of being on homegrounds.

Every player will get a total of 15 Home games and 15 Away games.

Home Player to announce challenge in announcement area on every Monday of the week.



How are the points computed?

Similar as to the soccer league, a win will be 3 points, and a draw 1 point, a lose 0 points.

Every player of the league will have to vote for their winner in each and every of the other 7 matches of the week, not allowed to vote for their own match.

One vote per player. It’s a either or voting system, so you will have to vote for either parties, no sitting on fence votes.

If the number of votes Player A gets is more than Player B, Player A wins and Player B loses. If the number of votes is the same, then it will be a draw.
The number of positive votes and against votes will be computed in the league table and the difference will be used to compute league position should there be similar points.


Rules & Regulations

This is a game in good sport and good fun. But some rules must be stick to.
1) No ripping or infringements of copyrights. Remember, it is not yours just because you found it online.
2) Stock images are allowed. A link to original would be preferred.
3) Strictly no racial, profane, vulgar or pornography in works

As far as possible, please try to keep to Photoshop. Entries must be at least more than 50% photoshopped, as this is a photoshop league.

A request would be that Home players of a particular week be considerate towards your Away opponent. Our ultimate goal is learning, not to put anyone down. Please do not start challenges or set boundaries where your opponents are not able to make it or do it. Yes, I know winning the league will be cool, but, everyone is a winner as long as we learn.

Penalties
For every match that was unable to be carried out and no prior notice or notification made ahead, the Home player or the Away player, whichever the fault lies with, will take a 3 points deficit and the player who did not get to play because of the other player will be automatically granted a win.


The Dates & Fixtures

Matches to be announced by Home players in the Announcement section of the Photoshop League Forum for the Away Players on every Monday.

Submission of entries to be on Fridays or every week.

Voting will end on the Thursday before the next submission date.

The challenge I have in mind on my homegrounds this week would be a portfolio challenge..

So the challenge would be to create the front & back covers of a print portfolio book, 1 content page, and 2 sample pages within the portfolio.

If you want to up the challenge level to include page dividers for different sections, let me know. I'll be more than glad to add on the difficulties..

Do it like you would present your portfolio.

All works used within this challenge must be your works and the portfolio must reflect a consistent style through the cover and the pages within.

One rule to stick by, there must be some use of Photoshop, you may use programs such as inDesign and Pagemaker to complement for page layouts if neccessary.. I think I might do mine entirely photoshop though. Entirely Photoshop is preferred.

After completion, to upload 72dpi entries in jpegs and gifs for ease of viewing and voting..

No specific size for portfolio book size.

Make it special and have fun. :P

Loky and Jusu, being on away grounds can come to my homeground for battle, so we'll make it 4 legged battle between fotodog, me, jusu, and loky, with judging between me & fotodog, me & jusu, me & loky separately, but all on my homeground battle theme this week..

I know it may be crazy for me to fight 4 in 1 week, but for jusu and loky, i can fight them all together in 1 battle with fotodog.. so PM will be my extra battle..

As we said earlier, it just takes effort to keep this league going.. and although we have not really started, we have come thus far.. 192 replies to this thread already.. Lets keep it going.. And.. I know we can do it.. If it calls for sacrifices, I'm willing to do extra battles every week in place of whoever who can't make it.. Come on people!

I don't own a camera as of moment, so for photo manipulations, it will be mainly based on stock images(free and not copyrighted)..

yeah, but just one thing ray, tuesday is almost impossible to me to post the announcement, monday would be perfect, or on wednesday too, but it gets a bit tight, cos on tuesday and on thurday i almost cannot go to my pc, so working with ps is even harder...
i would prefer on monday actually...

so, as for my arsenal, i would say i got a Full Metal Gear... hehe...:
everything related with darkness, metal... i like some vector but only to make basic things (like the cowboy or the knight of doom...); like to make the images 100%PS...

My tools can be Photoshop, some Illustrator (if im working with pen tool..), my keyboard, my laser mouse, and my 17" LCD, so, my computer...lol... and my whole brain... hehe... (better than u ray, since u only use the right half...)

hrc is willin to substitute for emm this week if we really do not see emm appearing on monday/tuesday.. but this can't be a long term solution.. :)

We do need an official substitute, who's preferably able to commit to 30 weeks if not, then at least most of it.. For weeks you cant, there can be substitute or delaying of battle..

Emm, I'm sorry but I really need a response from you. Otherwise, we will really have problem each and every week with substitution.. and if we do not have the same substitute for emm week in week, its weird in computation.. if we have someone who substitutes for emm every week, it is just as well that he takes over?

Emm, I'm sure you can join us if we have little knockout competitions midway through the league if you really wish to opt out of the league.. But its important to get the league on track first, people.. Once we get the league on track, we can think of competitions such as some little knockout stages cups for fun in between the 30 weeks like FA Cup and League Cup in English Premier League..

Battle Announcement ! :: Josh (Home) VS Loky (Away)


Its Monday ! ( for me over here:) ) so i guess im gonna announce the topic for our battle : me and loky..

So here it goes...the topic is mainly photo manipulation. I decided that we use an element in this manipulation that is staircase a.k.a stairs so, loky u just have to get a photo from sxc.hu or any other stock image that has a stairs and manipulate it to your creativity :)

bottomline : u can combine images together and manipulate them as long as u have the main element that is stairs...okok i know im being a bit long-winded here lol...but just to make it clear :)

PS : If there is anything that u are not sure with do repost or u2u me as soon as possible yea...with this im hoping to see more from u on this coming Friday ! cheers

the theme is: Darkness vs Lightness
the restrictions are: we cant use any photos, so we have to do everything, and we can use PS but other kinds like Illustrator and stuff, but at least 50% must be in PS...
