I still have 6, 7, 8 and 9 on my comp, but why would you use an earlier version (except for teaching)?

I'm very curious about this

The only time I open an earlier version is for training purposes.

I have heard urban myths that earlier version do certain things better, but if you set the prefs correctly CS2 can do anything better than earlier versions

I have 7 and 8. No special reason except for old urban myths. If I did a manip in 7 I like to have 7 around incase I need to replace or reuse. I don;t have any color issues or spacial file discrepencies. It is what is is and was. Got to take the boots off now and get back to work:D

In the early days i had everything on my computer as illegal!! Also versions of Photoshop...
But i always had strange things about the program, sometimes it wasn't running anymore, restarting the computer helped all the time.
But now i'm starting to make my own websites and stuff (about 2 years now) i wanted to have legal programs.
So in January 2005 i bought a new computer and i wanted every program on there as legal! And i still got that. I use a lot of freeware and some programs i bought.
I have to tell you guys that i sleep better (no really!! yes i do) knowing that it is alright to use these programs....
Just wanted you to know (and if you're interested here is a link) http://home.planet.nl/~herman68/negative/programmas.htm

I haven't heard of the myths...
Becaues of HD space, I only have CS2 installed, but I still have versions:
5
5.5
6
7
CS

So far I haven't found anything (that I do) to be better with an earlier version.

CS2 at work and on my laptop and 7 on my home desktop. I can't think of a single reason to use an older version if you have the latest one available.

CS2 is my choice with its great ability to select multiple layers at a go without hassle of doing links and etc..

I nv liked cs, dun ask why, it just doesnt appeal, i used to use it back at pre-u level but i virtually see not much of a diff between 7 n cs, except the filter gallery which i would rather do without..

so my choice in ranking:
1st - CS2
2nd - 7
...
...
...
...
...
?th - CS

frankly i dunno where to rank CS cos i never had any pleasant experience with it..

I love CS2!!

I have CS on work pc and 7 at home . I'm trying to get CS2 I think it's the best. I guess it covered all what's needed in the previous versions.

PS6.

Clean interface (down with software developers who feel the need to bevel the heck out of everything!), less system load, pretty much exactly the same functionalty for me as CS, which I use at work. I like nested layer sets, but everything else stays pretty much unused. Plus, no filter gallery!

:)
I like the filter gallery.

I use cs. I do have 7.0 and 6.0 lying around somewhere, but I don't miss them allthough I could just as well use them as Phil says.

Remember when dropshadows had to be made manually? What a timesaver when that became only a click away. New versions always take some getting used to, but after a while I never miss the older version.

You know what they lost in the jump from 6 to 7? Filter Factory. Filter Factory is awesome.

Of course, it was used probably the same amount as Filter>Other>Custom... still, I turned to FF a few times when I couldn't achieve results any other way (as a simple example, rebuilding a layer that had portions 100% erased rather than layer-masked out). Plus, it's simply been a blast to toy with. For me anyways...

you know, I remember that, but I don't think I used it. Ever. Not that I can recall. No time at work and no energy at home, I guess.

Photoshop Elements 2, 3, 4, & 5 Used for a class I teach called the digital dark room. For my own work I use Photoshop CS, I moved Photoshop 7 to my wife's desktop and occasionally will use it when I happen to be sitting at her desk. The bulk of everything that I do though is done on PS8. I still use Corel for a few things that I just can't seem to do in Photoshop.

Don't think you are talking about the correct person... I am a developer/designer, but not a teacher.

I mentioned PS7 in the past since some clients require that version, when you work with others you need a whole list of versions. :)

Oh and I am using CS3 now for 99% of my work!

Would it be wise to have YET another update? I bought CS and the update to CS2. Should i update again??

Also i think updating to CS3 without having Vista on my computer wouldn't have any sence, i think. Comments, suggestions?

Thoughts please. I don't know yet. I'm also thinking of an update on dreamweaver MX 2004 as well. Or should i wait until i buy another computer with Vista and then buy CS4? :D

I am now on CS3 master suite (OSX), the ultimate in bloatware & function, silly icons & horrible install, but what ya gunna do, it gets the job done and it all works reasonably well for me except for PS extended, which I run in Rosetta emulation 'cause I don't wanna upgrade all my plugins.

Way to dig up an old thread davjlee ;)

-Work, CS2 on the pc (had to bring in my version...) and 6.0 on the old mac G3 (the owner would rather be out spending $ drinking instead of improving the work environment)
-Home, CS2 and 5.5 'cuz it loads and saves Amiga .iff files. ...and yes, I still use the Amiga/VideoToaster for graphics.

Lol, I love how the poll is soooo outdated!

Definitely outdated! But there are so many new users now. I actually just upgraded to CS4 recently after using CS for a long time. I had also been using Imageready, however, I am now looking to upgrade from there as well.

I use CS3. I have tried CS4 and CS5, but I find them a bit difficult to use. I think it's because the latter layouts are darker than CS3. :P
